Basically when driving the car it's perfectly fine and idle is also smooth, however as soon as I put the pedal to the ground it seems like it is miss firing until it's over about 3.5rpm where then it's just smooth as silk car is a manual 2.3 16v I have a feeling it's got something to do with the ht leads or even distributor cap but would like some diy advice before I start spending money. I had a automatic civic 4G that had the same type of hesitation on a much worser scale that turned out to be the little spiny thing behind the actual distributor My dad thinks it has something to do with the air flow sensor I'm not to sure, the exhaust has a slight blow but i know for a fact it would not cause whatever is happening |

Could be a few things. I would check voltage regulator on the alternator. Change if brushes are getting short(5 mm minimum length). Fit new dizzy cap if required and rotor arm. Sounds more ignition-related. What petrol do you use? |

Mostly fill up with shell sometimes v power depending how I feel, never let it hit reserve Also if the brushes are short which I think they are shall I just get the alternators reconditioned Edited by DanialA11, Fri Dec 5, 2014 1:05 pm.

You can buy just the regulator - about £30 for a Bosch one. |

Left hand side just forward of the manifold. The regulator is at the rear of the alternator held in with two screws and sometimes a little spring clip. |

Ok so basicly I know it's the voltage regulator as the more electrics you use the lower the voltage drops I got my dad's new alternator out and took the voltage regulator out and the little fuse thingy at the top droped out so that needs a new regulator aswell http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&id=310860134936&alt=web will this be ok ? Or no Also would I be able to change the regulator while alternator still attached to the car ? From underneath maybe haven't had time to investigate All input welcome |

on the 2.5 cozzy the rear side of the alternator has a steel heat shroud which has to be removed to access the regulator.I think 2.3 is the same. Easier to change off the car tbh. |
