Ive just acquired a 2.0 with a gearbox fault. I took it for a quick spin and after putting my foot down it might have got into 3rd and then lost all drive. I tried messing about with the selector but nothing worked. It coasted along until it almost came to a stop, where it regained drive and carried on like nothing happened. So does this sound serious or just low on oil? Edited by Hooblah, Sun Dec 28, 2014 11:35 pm.

It's not particularly difficult but best done with the car on a lift or over a pit. The car should be level. Trying to do it by jacking the the car up on stands should be avoided if possible. There's a drain plug on the pan. Then turn the engine until the drain plug on the torque converter appears and empty that. Once drained you can remove pan, and inspect what crap(if any) is in there. Also inspect the colour and opacity of ATF which should be red and not brown. You will require a new pan gasket and filter. Take care tightening sump bolts. It's little over finger tight. There's a reasonable video on youtube and Kent has one or two tips on his website. Edited by eagle3, Mon Dec 29, 2014 9:15 am.

Thanks for the info! I was contemplating on doing it myself but I'm freezing my balls off outside! |
