I'm having a bit of trouble trying to remove the sensor block, I've removed the four studs but I cannot get it to slide out, I've tried a long bar but its as if there is another stud somewhere!! something I'm missing..... or pull harder? ![]() |

Silly question - but why do you need to get it off? |

I levered the sensor block off with a screw driver as as you are with a long bar, and it snapped the coolant outlet pipe. The pipe was corroded to the sensor block. Your best bet would be to attempt to rotate it after a heap of wd40 down the small gap between the sensor block and head. A new one is £96 from merc in belfast. Mines is currently at a machine shop being welded and turned on a lathe for £25 ish... I'll see what that turns out like next week. The pipe from a 2.5 is 2mm dia too big to use as a replacement in the 2.3. Just for some added info :-) |

Also, you should start wd40in the bolts for the thermostat housing... 2 of mine snapped :-(. Also I located a fatigue crack in the plastic housing, have a new metal one from ebay now |

No, but access to those bolts may be blocked by the sensor block. If you can rotate the sensor block enough to get access to both those bolts it should slot right out, both the sensor block and the pipe in one go. Edited by PhilG, Sat Jan 10, 2015 9:05 pm.

Got it off. .. A pig of a job it was too. You can only get about 10mm of rotation but its enough to break to bond, took me about an hour to get the dam thing off and it only took 5 minutes to get the other one off the engine thats in the car.... that one came off with little resistance Thanks again. .. |
