need a good drawing of the 190E 2.6 to begin gathering parts for my overhaul

I have some drawings from the past 20 years, but you know how "basic" they are.

I am making a list of every seal, gasket, guide, etc.
I don't need exact part numbers; they can look those up at the dealer.
The goal is to limit the number of parts which have to be special ordered after the block is apart and open.

Any help appreciated.

Hi Charles. Full diagrams and part numbers can be found here, http://www.avtochast.ru/mercedes/car/?region=1&catalog=431&model=201.029,
It is in Russian but most browsers these days automatically translate. Chrome certainly does.

Head gasket set
Head bolts (if stretched)
Rocker cover set
Block 'conversion' set... This is every gasket in the lower half of the engine but nothing from the head.
Valve stem oil seals
Timing chain tensioner plus seals
Timing chain
Timing chain guides
Core plugs (if you want to change them)
Head plugs (if you want)
Big end bearing shells
Crankshaft bearing shells and thrust spacers.
Piston rings
Small end bearings (I didn't bother changing mine)

Goodluck, just finishing assembling my 16v

Everything I used was genuine, except the block conversion set, used victor rienz, bought from ebay.
Piston rings were Mahle
And I can't remember what brand the shells were, supplied by the head skimmer

PhilG,

Did you machine it for oversize pistons?
At my mileage, I'm planning to go well oversize.

PhilG,

Honed it with standard rings, it's just on the maximum limit before rebore. I chose not to rebore as Pistons are not off the shelf for the 16v and need to be custom made at £150 each, plus the price of a rebore.

That was reasonable.
Ha There's no way at my mileage I will get away with it.

One of the good things about Atlanta is RBM of Atlanta.
You guys would positively love this dealership.

I ordered the major seals and gaskets today.
I am going to order a few things each week until I have everything.

Two serious questions for the forum:
1) How will the authentic and original parts hold up to the new alcohol saturated gasoline?
2) At my mileage I'm looking at machining the bore oversize; how far can I go? Can the 2.6 be machined enough to accept 3.0 pistons?

Thanks Mates

Charles

Would be cheaper just dropping a reconditioned M103 3 litre engine in..

Boring out engine will necessitate a new cylinder head as well.

You're probably right; Maybe I should just stick with the stock formula.
Does the dealer sell new or remachined long-block assemblies?

Shame, a few years ago I had a perfect 2.6 litre engine that I took out to make way for my 3.6. No one wanted it so it went for scrap after a couple of years.

Jeremy, isn't that the way it goes?

Right now, I'm trying to sell a chipper-shredder and no one wants it; after I scrap it people will come running! eatpopcorn

There are two rebores you can do on the engine. Bore increasing by about half a millimetre each time with the appropriate new rings. I assume it's not had its first rebore yet.

New valve guides, stem seals. Plus big end shells and I reckon that would do it. :)

Eagle, If I have to re-bore it, I'm going as big as it will take.
Custom pistons are fine; no real budget on this project.
Does anyone know how thick the cylinder walls are stock.
I'll let you know when I get it apart.

I don't know why you don't just do the first bore in the maintenance schedule(increasing bore by half a millimetre - about 20 thou to remove any ovalisation). You won't have to change the pistons or head. Just the bits that wear out. Maybe get the head skimmed if needed.
