Hi all, I'm looking for abit of advice as I'm pulling my hair out, my lovely 190e 1.8 auto is being abit tempremental. Every now and then it plays up making the tick over irratic, going from 600-1800 rpm (drives fine) then every so oft whilst driving I let off the throttle and it will stall without notice, sometimes it fires straight up sometimes it won't. Then there's the problem of some days it won't start! Try it next day and it fires straight up. The problems aren't happening all the time so it's hard to diagnose, I did once get chance to check spark and fuel when it wouldn't start and it had both a good spark and fuel at the injectors. Also I tried bypassing the fpr which caused the pump to run all the time but it still wouldn't start. Fuse looks ok on ovp and you can hear the pump run when I turn it over most times. Sometimes you can't hear it but it will still start?! Guess it's at pressure so won't pump until it's needed. Some one please help! I love my merc but I can't risk driving my 92year old grandmother in law about in it whilst doing this. Thanks! |

It sounds like a dry solder joint inside the OVP. |

Don't be afraid to check on ebay for a 2nd hand one mate as I'm not sure if stealers will stock it and if they do it will cost a fair bit most likely |

It's pointless buying a second hand one as it may well be just as bad. And if not, it won't have much life left in it. They are a consumable item. The price for them at the dealers has come down recently too.Mercedes have probably ordered a new batch to be made due to demand and when they do that with parts, the prices drop. |

Think I can definitely say the ovp relay was at fault as I haven't had the problem since and Iv done over 1000 miles since fitting it. |

Thanks for those links Stu, That's a big price difference when buying from the US-based supplier, isn't it?! If it comes from Herr Bosch in or Daimler-Benz in Germany in the first place, it's a bit ironic that it's cheaper to ship it forth and back across the atlantic! Best Regards, ConorD |

The one from the US is not an OE one. On closer inspection it looks quite badly put together to be honest. Most probably cheap Chinese made. |
