Hi everyone. Recently my 2.0 8v had the head gasket replaced after it bent some valves. I got the head skimmed and I cleaned the block. Well since I reinstalled the head I am slowly loosing coolant and the header tank is becoming pressurised along with the hoses. Now it never did this before so I'm assuming the gasket hasn't made a good seal. Is there a make of gasket people usually use or go genuine? My whole set was only £25 so seemed quite cheap. Compression is as follows. 1=8bar 2=8bar 3=8bar 4=11bar My car has done 200k but even now still starts and drives fine with no smoke or oil/coolant mix. Ta Matt |

i would go genuine from mercedes if you have had a problem with a aftermarket one would go genuine anyway especially on that part but thats my opinion my 1.8 way pressurised then put a 2.0 in it the other day and thats pressurised to and had a headgasket test done on the 1.8 and it come back fine then had it done to to the 2.0 and thats come back fine to the 1.8 engine failed due to the rad had a leak so ran out of water then over heated so can't work out why there pressurised.... Did you have the head bolts re-torqued after 500 or so miles? I'd take it back to whoever did the job and get them to put it right. |

Well I did it myself haha ![]() I also did retorque the head bolts after a few heat cycles. I have done many headgaskets before and never had a issue, but just wondered if others have had similar results with cheap gaskets. I'll stick a genuine one in and see how it goes. I originally used genuine head bolts but after it pressurising I got some 12.9 cap heads to see if it helped. But unfortunately not |

Jason I agree it's a strange one! My only other thought is if there is a slight crack in the head, but it would surprise me if it dropped the compression the same amount on all 3 cylinders |

The cooling system is designed to run at a certain pressure and your header tank cap should have a blow off pressure marked on it |

Yeah a little pressure is perfectly normal but after a drive when it's hot I can hear it slowly spitting past the cap |

Sounds like a crack in the head you need to remove it and get it pressure tested |
