Speedo issue; Incorrect speedo

Hi guys,
Have just purchased a 1993 1.8 190e manual and have discovered a little problem with it,
The speedo does occasionally jump and wave across like that of a loose cable drive but only occasionally the main problem being it under reads the speed between 5-10 mph depending on how fast you go so indicated 30 mph is actually 33-36mph when compared to known good vehicle, snooper and sat nav problem being I've bought a neglected example ( lots of serviceable items brakes suspension etc) so not too enthusiastic at throwing money at the issue but need it addressing asap! Any ideas or experience of this issue?
Also finding it hard to locate someone to calibrate the unit as everyone only deals with digital! 😡
My previous 190e was equal to the snooper and nav and my old 300 ce-24 was 3mph under the indicated dash speed so haven't really e countered this before!
Any help or advise greatly appriciated!
Thanks in advance,
Ger

Hi, have approached the local MB garage apparently it's too old!!😂 Am currently hunting down a good specialist localish to me in Northwales,
@Justbecos the wheels are standard Mercedes alloys and from what literature I have are believed to be the correct size for the car same size as the sport line type alloys 185/65 r15 as stated in the owners pack and service handbooks so am at a loss unless it's had a second hand differential with the incorrect ratios but given age I'm struggling to identify any serial numbers etc one curious thing keeps eating me is the position of reverse its different to my 1990 1.8 sport line on this current one it's over to the left and back (dogleg?) whereas the sport line was left and forward ( like a golf but better!🙊)
Given what little I know about these cars just getting re impression it's had an interesting life before my rescue of it!
But if you know or can recommend any good part suppliers or specialists be again very grateful
Thanks,
Geraint

Mine was exactly the same, apparently the drive teeth on one of the gears in the speedo are plastic and wear out over time, thats what I was told. I just programmed myself to deal with it.

In fact, mine was a '93 1.8 manual as well, recently saw it up for sale on AT. Not K281 OBK is it?

That would be the one! Can I ask what condition was it in when you sold it? Did you source the mot?
Well I could live with it if it was consistently out by say 5mph but it does change e.g indicated30 mph actual 33/4 mph, 40mph 48mph, 50 mph 60, 70mph is reputable to an estimate nearer 85 !
It's a shame the speedo is so wildly out as I do actually like the car but given how many speed traps etc there is in n Wales it's just not worth the risk,
Will have to show it off once it's all sorted

Just an update, few little purchases done;
3.64 ratio differential
Window regulator
Throttle linkage
Vacum thermoswitch
Gear box linkage bushes

It's going in for some substantial structural welding on jacking points usual points of rust!
Suprisingly missed on its last mot test along with the cracked rear springs, failed balljoints, trackrods, bulging flexis and wheelbearing

Had a look on retro rides seems it's had an adventure up to recently as jan 2015 lol
Thankfully all of this is child's play to rectify but a little concerning given its just passed an Mot but joys of these old cars eh always throwing up surprises
But thanks to dartony for the suggestion it was spot on!
Even fixed the trip whilst at it too!

Thanks for the help guys very much appreciated hopefully won't have too many head scratchers from now on!
