My 190D auto suddenly lost power, only working in reverse. Thinking it might be a clogged up filter the sump came off and we found what looks like a pushrod of some sort just sat there all alone. It's about 25mm long and looks about like a dog's bone, as in the picture that can be viewed via this link: http://postimg.org/image/ip5ojj3jt. (Sorry - couldn't make the image upload or hyperlink work, although perhaps this will when live)

Has anyone seen one before or know where it should be? Many thanks.

Andy

I'm no expert but I think one of the brake bands has broken. Realistically you probably need to be on the hunt for a used transmission I'm afraid.

Has the box had regular oil/filter changes?

Thanks Gary. The gearbox has been well-maintained with regular oil and filter changes. The oil's as clean as when last replaced and there's been no leaking, no muck or tell tale signs of busted bits of metal and no evidence of there being anything wrong during use etc. so I'm pretty sure it's not a band issue. I might be wrong but that little dog bone looks like a push rod of some sort - but God knows where from!

There is a very detailed post of an autobox strip down on PeachParts - PEACHY LINKIE

There are loads of photos, you may be able to recognise the part. This photo in particular (about half way down the 1st page of the post) looks like your part, I may be wrong. The guy posting says there is one of these in B1, B2 and B3 brake bands.

Thanks all for advice, pics etc. it turns out that it was one of those little bullets as pictured further up the page and the clip that held it in place had broken. A new one was fabricated, it was put back and all's well. Phew ....
