speedometer issue compatability

I've now bought 2 different speedometer cables both times I've been sent this.

Will it fit? I can't seem to push the extra thick rubber through the bulkhead and will the gearbox be able to fit with this end?

Here is my old one with the new one. This end is half the size of my original

On with the job the cable fits in the cluster but at the gearbox side it isn't going in its like it's jamming halfway are all the ends the same size or have I gone and got one too big
