Are you checking the oil level with the oil warm and the engine running? |

no I checked it after a run and the engine had cooled the oil level sat between the two cut outs on the stick , should I be doing it with the engine running then ?? and where should the level be on the stick , I did say I wasn't mechanically minded lol !! |

Yes it should be checked when warm and with the engine running. It should be at the top mark. |

They always read well over the top mark when checked without the engine running. I suspect yours is low on oil ! |

Oh and use the correct oil and make sure you get the right sump pan rubber seal..good luck, you may want to get a garage to do this if you know jack about cars. |

Many of them whined from new believe it or not ! I recently read an old AutoCar article where they mentioned the diff noise. There seems to be no set rules to weather a diff will be noisy or not. My first 190 was low mileage and screamed its head off. I recently had a 1.8 with intergalactic mileage and the diff was silent. I have heard that it all comes down to how the pinion bearing was set when the diff was new. Maybe one of the factories got it wrong
