with my engine & gearbox out now is the time to change to gearbox oil,

I have plenty of ATF but I don't know how much the gearbox takes.... do I just fill until it comes out the filler plug?

Mine took about 1.6L, as said, just filled it the filler plug.

Also, rather worryingly, I'm pretty sure oil came out of mine, but I filled it up with atf afterwards.

And best advise I got was to make sure you can open the fill hole before you open the drain hole! The filler plug on mine was a complete twat to loosen, I'm thankful I had the box out of the car at the time for there is no way I would have got it loosened whilst still on the car!

put some plumbers thread tape ( PTFE ) on both plugs before refitting it will help next time

Hmm, I'd much prefer copper grease due to the high temps Plus oil will break down the components of the PTFE

seeing that these gearboxes have a tendency to leak should I look into replacing certain seals while the gearbox is on the floor,

so the oil is changed in the gearbox and I'm now marrying the gearbox to the engine and I have 2 questions.... :help: :D

1. Is this the right way around for the disk

2. I have a gap of about 10mm left... can't seem to push it all the way by hand, are you supposed to go the rest of the way by tightening the studs?

just flip the clutch disk ;)

/edit
no, disk is correct.
There shouldn't be a gap between gear box and engine. Check the release bearing on the lever.

regards,
Christian

em... its fitted now

it went back together quite easilly in the end just by bolting it up,

I had thought that the larger side of the disk should face the pressure plate?

Did you centre the clutch with a tool or screwdriver?

In your pics of the disc the plate didn't look centred ...if the box mated with the engine comfortably though it should be fine
