Evenin all. I've had an ongoing problem now for the last year or so of crud build up in the coolant expansion bottle. A couple of weeks ago for the second time in a year I did a full flush of the cooling system and over the last few days been loosing oil into the coolant and also losing water, with none visible in the oil. It leaves me with the fact that its time for a new hg but only owning the car for 18 months with very little history on paper and almost 190k on the clock would it be cheaper to fit a decent 3.0 or fix the current/original 2.6? Either job would probably have to be done by someone else as I have very little time and nowhere to do it. Any advice much appreciated.

Just wondering whether it's ATF contamination(leak in radiator/ATF cooler interface).

Most M103s leak a bit of engine oil out through the HG to the exterior, but leakage into coolant seems to be less common. But if required I'd just get it done. I think it's less of a headache than an engine change.

Hi - I too am facing the very same issue. Car drive lovely, no lack of power, no smoke, oil and dipstick shows no indication oil coolant however there is oil or black stuff in my coolant. I got 190D 2.5. I wonder if you ever got to know the issue with your car.
Your reply will be highly appreciated.

Hi there, on removing the head the gasket was in bits I contemplated putting another engine in but decided to stick with the original one. The head was pressure tested to check it was worth reusing then totally reconditioned by a local engine specialist. The cars ran sweet as for the last year or so since it was done and should be even better when I change the injectors. Hope this helps.

I would be tempted to get the head reconditioned and then you will know that you have another 150K miles to go with nothing to worry about. Buy a used 3.0 and just to be on the safe side I bet you will be tempted to get the head checked...
