Clutch system bleed

Hi everyone,

Today I tried to bleed the clutch system on my W201 but I have encountered a problem. In order for me to bleed the system, fluid must come out of the bleed nipple on the slave cylinder when the clutch peddle is pressed and held, however no fluid comes out.

Things that I have checked are: there is fluid in the reservoir, bleed technique; only opening the bleed nipple once the clutch peddle is floored and held.

I have googled for an answer but still unsure. Could it be that the slave cylinder is no good?

Any help on this will be much appreciated.

Craig

Not easy bleeding hydraulic clutches. I use a low pressure kit(about 1.2 bar is enough) which forces the fluid through. I used to use one connected to a deflated(to 1.2 bar) spare wheel. Now I have one I can pump by hand.

Also I find it's best to have the bleed nipple pointing upwards so any air bubbles can find their way out. You might find it's more effective just opening the bleed nipple and let gravity do the work..

Thanks for this eagle3, I will have a look at my local auto parts store to see if they have one as this seems the best way to do it.

They're great for bleeding the brakes on your own as well of course.

You just need to seal the reservoir completely(or the fluid comes out the rubber bung holes on the top  ).

I am probably due to do the brakes so would be a wise purchase

Thanks again for the advise.

Its a easy little job make sure the bleed nipple is fully open and have a mate press the clutch down and if nothing is coming out just keep repeating once there is a flow of liquid tighten up and get mate to release clutch, road test and repeat if necessary, good luck best regards Chris
