Hi
As mentioned before the idle speed changed from typ 800 rpm to to approx 1200 in Park and 1500 rpm in N.

Following guidance I checked for leaky or split hoses using butane spayed around with no effect. I also checked the micro-switch that rests against the metal cam on the spindle connected to the accelerator cable. The switch is working, ie opens and closes and the electrical cable connected to it provides 12v with the ignition switched on but engine not running.

The looking around at all of the hoses I could not see any splits or leaks
the hose identified below is a little loose but had no impact

Then with the engine running in "N" I disconnected the vacuum hose to the bulkhead mounted Electronic module, - Ignition Control Unit

initially the revs dropped to about 1200, and after a few seconds the revs rose to about 2500 rpm. After this I switched off the engine, returned to "P". Then re-connected the vacuum hose to the module, and re-started the engine.

Now when re-started the revs are fixed, returned to around 800 rpm, and the car is now back to normal.

Does anybody know how this has fixed the problem?

cheers

Malcolm

Weird, Not sure how that'd fix it alone ^o)

I don't have much confidence but lets hope its permanent as that has to be the cheapest fix ever ! :D

Pure speculation:
1) Is the end of the vacuum tube that you unplugged now inflexible, or had grit in it, either of which might allow some air to pass? In that case, if that way you replaced it has gone past that gap, then you've fixed it but you'd need to get a spare vacuum tube.
2) Could unplugging and replugging the vacuum tube have jiggled something in the ICU soldering / circuitry? In that case, it's the ICU that needs attention, not the vacuum tube.
Just some thoughts; I'm no expert!
Best Regards,
