Slight grumble when idling/stationary or low rpm. Idle is smooth and stable but sounds and feels like its dying. Any pointers? |

To begin with it could be the tensioner shock absorber... Kenny's old video here shows what I am talking about: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cCaxzYC7DjI Or it could be something rattling due to your car having to low idling on load. Does it happen when the car is cold and also at operating temperature? Edited by hitenb, Wed May 10, 2017 11:11 am.

Pop the Aux drive belt off and start the engine to see if the noise goes away. Don't run it for too long though as the coolant pump wont be rotating, so the engine will get hot pretty quickly. |

That's a good idea, I'll try that. Where is the shock btw. I can't seem to find it. |

There might not be a shock on the 2.0, my manual doesn't have a shock for the tensioner and thats a 2.0 |

To anyone experiencing same symptoms it's the engine mounts. Day off work today so could get a good look in. Got somebody in the car to put the brake on and put it in drive, I then pushed my weight on the engine tipping it to one side... grumble gone. Hopefully helps others in the future. Thanks for the suggestions.

Did you drop the bolt for the bottom of the mount into the subframe/car body? I did my mounts last week and dropped one, even though Stwat warned about it happening in a thread ages ago. Oh, how I chuckled to myself! New mounts make a big difference eh? |

Only diagnosed the issue at the minute. Will be doing them as soon as possible. |

Be careful with those bottom bolts! They just love to escape and hide... It's an easy enough job, Nathan. Access is good, you can squeeze the mount in past the alternator no worries. I took my front bumper off to open things up a bit, but you don't have to. |

Not engine mount bolts, but I've dropped a socket in the bay and can't find it, didn't drop to the floor, might of fell of on the road somewhere. |
