Hi All , hope you can help . I've been reading this for years and learned so much, it's fantastic. I've had my 1991 190E 1.8lt for 22years. Now I've a problem and hope someone can help ! When accelerating from stop or reaccelerating after changing gear the engine sometimes gives a shudder and jerks a bit . When you get over 25 mph the engine runs much better . It's so annoying and frustrating! I've changed dizzycap , rotar arm , HT leads , distributor and fuel pump and given it a full service but the problem persists. Any advice very welcome ! |

Check the fuel line filter at the connection to the fuel distributor. If it's not fuel related, check the condition of the voltage regulator on the alternator. Happy hunting! |

Thanks for that . I had a look at the fuel pump relay this evening and it was moveable / loose so I put packing around it ( it had been replaced but not glued/ siliconed down)so I'm wondering if the female receptors for the relay pins may have enlarged one of them ? I've heard of the regulator problem before so that'll definitely be on the things to do list , pretty sure the alternator is 26 year old , definitely 22 year old . These cars sure were bullit proof . |

So I decided to look for this filter / gauze at the distributor. I unscrewed the two inlet pipes to the distributor, the back pipe ,close to the oil filter had a plastic insert but no filter , the front pipe had nothing in it at all . Was I looking in the right place for this filter/ gauze ? Any help appreciated. |

In the light of what you've discovered, I would transfer your attention to the small external 'box' bolted to the side of the fuel distributor - the EHA, which trims the fuel mixture according to the power requirements made by the accelerator. At the point where the EHA is attached there are two tiny gaskets which can leak and upset the operation of the EHA. If you can see fuel in this area then try gently tightening the two Allen screws which attach the EHA to the fuel distributor. if this doesn't cure the leak/symptoms then the EHA , or the electrical connection via the plug onto it, may be faulty. |

Apologies, for 'Allen' screws, these are, in fact, Torx splined scocket screws. |

There were rumours of some having a Rhumba.Turns out, those who thought that were dancing to a different beat,,, But yes, all 1.8's have a Lambda sensor. |

So can't believe its two months on , but problem is solved ! After changing the potentiometer, I went on to the injectors and car is like new again! So six mechanics later I fixed it myself and in my opinion the only way to get it done right. Thanks to all who gave advice on this one . |
