New Spark Plugs; Remove end caps of plugs or not?

I changed the spark plugs today. The old NGK T-5 Resistor plugs installed by the PO were getting tired. I managed to purchase some no resistor NGK BP5ES plugs. I am wondering whether of not it is best to remove the screw on end cap or not. The plugs fit the metal wire ends fine either way but go deeper and therefore get more metal coverage from he wire ends with the ends removed. Any previous gas powered Mercedes or Volvo with the metal BERU style wire ends I have owned in the past used plugs with the end caps removed. No big deal I am sure as the car runs fine either way.

The caps should be removed. The caps have all been loose and often rattling around in the box on NGK's I have bought over the years.

That's with the original leads fitted. It may be different with aftermarket leads.

Stwat come on explain i am lost .When i have purchased a set of plugs the all come with screw caps on the top .Some times they are loose in the box. These have to be screwed on with pliers to secure them. Merc ht leads have a type of locking system inside the plug cap .And as you push them on it locks on to the groove in the plug screw cap with a snap .By removing the caps on the top of the plug , it would not lock on .

Norsman if you have original ht leads then the plug screw cap is to be locked on to the spark plug top If your leads are aftermarket then i would not know if to fit the screw top or not. But the bosch ht leads fitted by mercedes as this metal plug cap and in side its fitted with a wire spring it
clicks when you push the ht leads on to the plug, this stops it coming off over time , same with the distributor. In all the time i have worked on the plugs at no time have i seen these screw caps removed . Well only on old cars they screw off the screw cap from the plug , and use the plug screw cap to hold the ht leads on .

Thanks, yes they are original MB leads so I will put the caps on the plugs. On my other MB, BMW and Volvo vehicles with this style plug leads I have always removed the spark plug caps. I did notice that Kent at Mercedessource in one of his videos on the W201 the spark plugs have the caps on. I will do the same.
