I am planning jobs for the winter one of which is having the spoiler repainted. There is a small bubble in the paint around the hole where the bolts come up through and which can barely be seen with the spoiler in place. The question is can this be dealt with without having to respray the whole boot. Although the car is now 30 years old the paintwork is still factory fresh and original bar a handful of stone chips. In general can small marks be dealt with without having to paint wider areas. Your expertise would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. |

I got a touch up paint from the dealer for stone chips and the colour match is very good. I tend to fill any chips with paint until they are proud of the surrounding paint, leave to dry for a week then very carefully flat the paint back level with some 1000 wet and dry and polish. This might work for a slightly bigger area but it does take time and patience. Might be worth a try...if it doesn't then have the whole panel done. |

Andy, Suggest extreme caution when re-painting the spoiler. I had my silver 2.6 re-sprayed, including the spoiler, which had a couple of small nicks when I first bought it. I used my highly respected, very experienced paint man and close friend. He told me afterwards that as the spoiler is made of a soft, pliable composite rubber, re-painting the spoiler was a horrible, nightmare of a job. Stripping/sanding off/peeling off/flattiing the old surface to ensure a good finish was time-consuming and extremely difficult. You have been warned! It's an old car (albeit a very good one).....accept the fact that it won't be perfect and get the touch up paint out. Go the above route and you could be making a rod for your own back. Just saying......... |

Good advice. Luckily I have had better experiences with spoilers. I had the spoiler on the sportline painted and it came out brilliantly. Still on the car which is with the guys at Mercedes Enthuthiast and looking good. My paint man is a time-served long time Mercedes Technician who has set up by himself and does a great job. I tend to agree with you on the spot around the bolt hole under the spoiler. Because it is not in plain sight I am minded to just have it cleaned up and touched up. Better than spoiling the boot panel which is in superb original condition. Edited by aemt, Sun Jul 9, 2017 10:31 am.

Hi Andy If you decide to go ahead with the work do the whole lot and be done with it, boot and spoiler. Even small little repairs the sprayer has to bend in the paint work, they can't just spray a small patch. |

As long as the spoiler will cover the rust repair yes it will .You need to grind all the rust out .And then use a good rust converter .I use the rust converter from Land Rover i think its caled metalmorphoses or something like it .I use it on my rust patches and it coverts it harmless. So you can repaint it after |
