Hi all. I am currently weighing up the possibilities of swapping my dead 2.0e engine for a 2.3 M102.982 from a W124. I have seen an engine suitable but just wanted to confirm that it will mate with my engine bay and original 2.0 automatic transmission with no difficulties. The donor engine is from a 1990 model 230E. Is this single or duplex timing chain? Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated. I can't find a replacement 2.0 within my budget and the cost of rebuilding the original engine probably far outweighs the value of the car itself. The improvement in performance will be most welcome too. |

Being 1990 it should be duplex chain yes. I have a complete 2.3 8v engine out of a late w124 in Sheffield that i bought and shoved onto a shelf for a rainy day but I've got that many projects on the go now i need to thin out the herd so i'm tempted to get shut if it interests you ? It came out of a S124 230TE manual (77k miles) with self leveling so you'd need to swap the flywheel over and remove the hydraulic pump from the rocker cover after that it would be a drop in replacement. Will your engine mate with my 2.0 auto box? I've already agreed a price on this M102.982 including postage. What would you be looking to get for yours, out of curiosity? |

Wow! Ok.... My car is in Manchester currently, but my mechanic is on holiday in Ibiza for a week or so. Let me talk it over with him, but I could be very interested in your engine. Sheffield is only a hop, skip and jump across Snake Pass from us. |
