Hi guys I am fixing the rust patches on my car (mainly scratches and a stone chip) Have sanded down and removed all rust, treated area and also primed and I am now doing top coat. Was wondering if I have to use a lacquer on top? I will be using it for the wing mirrors, but unsure about body paint? Any advice welcome and appreciated. Thanks in advance Danny |

Aerosol can? Yes you'll need to lacquer it. Buy from a proper paint factor/supplier. They will give you all the advice you need. Buy plenty of paint, better to have too much than run out. Any full unused cans could go back. As you rub an area down you will see that a small area will grow in size. The final lacquer coat will be about six times the size of the original rust spot. Use a grey Scotch pad to key for lacquer. See paint factor again for these and advise. When everything has fully dried and hardened cut the whole area back with compound. Please do not use T-cut, that's just for cleaning brass. Painting with aerosol cans is not ideal but with practice can be fairly effective. I once saw a magazine feature (Street Machine) many many years ago about a car fully resprayed with rattle cans, the guy used crateloads of them! It looked quite good in pictures. Good luck. |
