Hi again. Have just done a head gasket change on my 2.0 Auto and it starts but then stalls straight away. if I add a little throttle when cranking it'll rev and still stalls. For the short period of time that it runs everything is super smooth with no nasty noises. There's nothing hanging off (apart from a tiny earth cable spade around earth point 3 that I'm have trouble locating a home for) and everything looks like it's in the right place. Any suggestions greatly appreciated. Have just noticed that for the two seconds or so that it runs, the rev counter isn't working...just googling that now! Edited by Russ_90, Thu Sep 7, 2017 8:35 pm.

Yes HT leads all ok. It will run for a short period of time. Would it run at all if HT leads were wrong? |

If HT leads were all wrong it would not start or run but might backfire (not good!) . If two are misplaced it might start and run but with a definite miss. |

This might help if you dont get it going . Remove the wire from the rear of the taco .If taco is not working or faulty then the ecu gets no information |

Thanks Optimus. It was working before doing HG though. I'm thinking now that the FPR is ok and it's just not getting a tachometer signal and therefore shutting engine down after 1 sec. I have got a rogue earth wire that I cant find a home for. Gonna have to post a pic as I really can't see where it goes...and it's only tiny!

Problem seems to be that you don't have an engine speed signal. You need to test the signal from the ignition control unit on nearside inner wing which should feed the tacho and fuel pump relay via the diagnostic socket. The circuit you are interested in is TD. The wires are usually green/yellow 0.75 mm2 Startek manuals See the electrical troubleshooting manual at the bottom of the page. Edited by JustbeCoz, Fri Sep 8, 2017 2:02 pm.

Thanks for that. I'll take a look when I get home. My loose wire is in that area with no obvious place to go! |

I wish I knew Optimus. Just pulled all the connections and remade them then tightened all the earth connects and off she went! Must have been something to do with the tacho input to the FPR as you and JustbeCoz suggested. It now appears to be using a bit of water still; might just be removing air but only time will tell! |

Good advice. Thanks Optimus. Thinking of taking it to work tomorrow...60 mile round trip so that should prove one way or another. |
