Hi could someone tell me if the 2.5 diesel autobox is the same as the petrol models as I need to located a good second hand unit for my 1991 190d

Nah. You're kidding, that's not the valves inside an auto box, that is one of those 'spot the difference' brain-teasers. :crying:

When I did Advanced Car Mechanics years and years ago, the lecturer brought in a ZF box. He explained how it works, then told us to take it to bits. One chap got the correct sockets and removed the valve chest cover. Bits of internals went flying all over the room. The teacher then said OK pick them all up and put them back. Shortly afterwards he said I'm only kidding, you can't. They are all so similar you need to be a specialist to tell which bit goes where. If you get an auto box that needs fixing, send it to a specialist. Alternatively if you want to make a fortune, spend 6 months learning how to take one apart and rebuild it, then you can live a long and plentiful life.

My 1992 190 2.5D has a 722.418 ... Quite sure that is the correct box it as it is original ...
