Yes, done it. Do it. Makes absolutely zero difference to anything but it lasts longer than the paper ones and you get a nice little sticker for the engine bay. Unless you are an originality fanatic in which case for your tool box. |

I had a K&N on many vehicles in the past 30 years. They worked well in my game warden work trucks on dusty, mud roads where there a paper filter gets clogged pretty fast and needed changing in severe service . I had one from my '79 450SL and also on my BMW 635CSi after noticing scum on the air intakes so removed them in favour of OEM paper filters since the cars get so little use and rarely are driven on dusty roads. I never noticed any improvement in performance or gas mileage as claimed. They are a good product IMO but may not filter as well as the good quality paper versions.

Good filter, but as said, no real powergain on "normal" engines. Kn and most similar filters should be oil on, many forget this. With No oil on filter, fine "dust" can pass filter. |

Yes they must have oil on ,which is why they are often a bad idea for modern cars. The oil can contaminate the MAF sensor and knacker it pretty quickly. A good idea on old cars like ours though for owners who want to keep them long term. Over 10 years say, it will save money over replacing paper filters annually. |
