Does anyone have any recommendations on who can restore a 2.5-16v rocker cover? Looking to get it back to factor spec (without paying £1,800 I have been quoted by MB classic!) Based in London. Many thanks |

I did mine earlier this year, I gave it to powder coasters who did it satin/Matt black, Some will do it some may say you have the old paint removed, find someone who does vapour blasting, it's a more finer sand blasting technic, then Rhys cut the lines back using a sanding block & fine grade paper, total cost was £40! MB Classic come out with some stupid quotes, worse thing is those i*** who pay it, you can buy a New one for £450+VAT if they're still available. Most dont bother/know, but its magnesium, so should be cleaned, and recromated, before paint, so cost some to do IT proper...

Definately best to clean it before paint, I would go with the vapour blast option unless you have a few hrs spare to strip it all back for a good finish, also remove the inner gauze plate before you do.

Just dont get any paint inside . You will have a shock when you see inside it if you have it off ...And replace the valve cover gasket with original mb one . For that price £1800 i would want a new engine. |
