The glow plug light usually illuminates before starting the engine and then extinguishes when the engine starts. Now the glow plug light isn't coming on, pre starting the engine. But when the engine does start, the glow plug lamp stays on for a minute or so. Does this signify a fault with the pre heating? Cheers! |

This car is testing you a bit... The light stays on for a while if a glow plug is faulty. I think it's explained in the car's handbook if you have it. I would not worry too much if the car is starting OK - i.e., it's not urgent. You've got five glow plugs, so one out won't hurt it. If you're changing them and haven't done glow plugs on an OM60x engine before, some of the plugs may look tricky/impossible but the injector pipework is designed so you can get to all of them with an assortment of extensions and wobble bars. I changed them on a 190D 5 cylinder about years ago. I think I took the inlet manifold off to make life easier. |

It can be done with the manifold in situ but its more awkward. I think its a matter of personal choice to be honest. Glow plug light staying on after engine starts indicates a fault in the system. As Greek taxi says, its sounds like it could be one faulty plug. You could test them to find out which one and replace it, but often when one dies the others wont be too far behind so unless funds are extremely tight I would replace the set. |

I think I'll just go for a full swap of 5. I've been looking at the Eurocarparts site. I'd like to go for Beru as they seem very long lasting in the Scirocco. Problem is that no matter which of the 4 or 5 brands you go for, they all list two different types of plug! Does anyone have prior experience of deciphering which is which?! |

I had the same conundrum doing the plugs on my C250 (om605), slightly different issue though. (they were listing CDI plugs alongside the correct ones, Guess which ones i bought first )From what i can make our there are actually two different plugs for the om603/2 depending on whether its turbo or non turbo. Externally one is 1.5mm longer right off the bat. ![]() ![]() As a side note, I've just noticed that the turbo om602/3 injectors are all slightly angled towards the back whereas the non turbo models all seem to be mounted straight. Anyone confirm this ? Edited by MercManCraig, Sun Nov 26, 2017 1:31 pm.

Do you know which length is for the non turbo engine? I'm on the right track then. |

I don't know the length, just had a look for an old invoice but can't find it. If no one gives you an answer pull one out and measure it. Beru is for winners! |

I don't know which is which either although i suspect they'd both work fine. It's only the glow plug tip that's different the rest is the same. Short of access to EPC to find the right one using your VIN number i'd just pull a plug Greek style if you're doing it yourself and go from there. |

Ive just measured four of them with my digital caliper. They ranged from 70.45 to 70,68, so I would guess you want 70mm rather than 72mm. Hope this helps. |

Hi mate, I am doing my glow plugs at the moment on my 2.5d, I removed the manifold for easier installation. I got my glow plugs from the dealership. About £53 for all 5. Give them a ring, I did as there was too many to choose from on ECP. Regards Danny |

That is only £5 more than Euro and I need to visit the dealer to get an inlet manifold gasket so makes sense to kill two birds with one stone! Is £53 retail or are you on good terms re discount?! |

I just told them having difficulty in finding the right glow plugs and could they help me find out which one's were right for my car. They said they were competitive on price so I just asked what they could do all 5 for. I always ask best price for cash. This was MB at Stafford. Regards Danny |
