Hi guys Am I right in thinking that if a WP is knackered there is water leaking out of a little tube under the alternator? Because I'm losing a lot of water but can't find any other leak No signs of HG failure Merry Xmas all Chris |

If you feel below and behind the pump pulley wheel you'll feel a round ended metal tube pointing downwards. If the bearing seal is going, the leaking coolant drips out of this tube (very slowly). Mine dripped when the engine was cold and accumulated on the under engine tray.

If it is the water pump drive seal take the radiator cap off when cold and leave it a couple minutes. When you come back there is likely to be a good size puddle on the undertray. |

Thank you for your help. It seems it was the water pump. Isn't it amazing that Mercedes put in a pipe in case of seal failure. It run from the bottom of the WP to the bottom of the engine under the alternator. At rest it dribbled a bit but must of been squirting out a lot whwwen it was going along, Once again, thqanks and Season's Greetings BTW £140 fittred |
