My 2001 VW Passat; B5.5 1.8t

My daily driver.
2001 VolksWagen Passat 1.8 20v Turbo B5.5
150 bhp
Manual
Inky Blue
15" Wellington Alloy wheels, with Michelin tyres.
Black Leon velour interior
145k miles

When my dad bought his W203 C180 Kompressor, this was looking for a new home. He couldn't be bothered to advertise it due to the amount of idiots on eBay and AutoTrader.
I was looking for a daily driver, so I suggested taking it off his hands. So in exchange for a full detail of his C180, which I'm yet to do, I was given this.

Few exterior shots to start

Plenty of power coming from the turbo, yet still gets 40mpg on a run.
Had it since November.
In my opinion a very underrated car.

Suffering the usual VW alloy problem
One of the wheels have gone porous. Think a nice set of Golf GTI alloys or multi-spokes will look good.

good cars the b5.5 - ive had 3, 2 x 1.8t (which I loved) and a 2.8v6 4motion (which I hated with a passion)

The main thing to keep an eye out are steamy windows !!!! The B5 has a design fault with the cabin filter housing and can lead to flooding inside the car and eventual car death !!!! (speaking from personal experience)
Also sludging can be a issue with the 1.8t but I never had a issue.

Fitting the 3 spoke steering wheel is the most rewarding mod for the least amount of cash - alot more chunky and nicer than the horrible plastic wheel. Golf GTI ones bolt straight on and are cheap as chips

AMG Monoblocks are the best looking wheel for the car - need a minor mod to fit - spigots, a 14mm drill bit and balls of steel !!! All 3 of mine run monoblocks

Golf GTI Recaro fronts can be fitted with minor mods and are alot nicer than the standard Grandad seats. A nice mod if matched with a Passat Leather back seat.

Also a cheap remap can be had for less than 200 quid and makes the car a heck of alot nicer mid range without killing the consumption

Will look into the steering wheel and seat options.
This has been modified to avoid the pollen filter & ecu flooding issue.

Also, I have fixed the broken pics in post 1

Do you have any photos of them on monoblocks?

My dad had one of those when it was new. It was a bit of a lemon, with memories of it stranding us in England and also France. Although, it may have hypothetically reached 130mph quite happily on the French motorway to catch a ferry.

If i bought s set of monoblocks, I know they would end up on my 190e.

But for now I will just post a pic of mine after a quick detail session.

Your insurance should cover glass, not just screens. Should be a nominal payment with no effect on 6our NCD.

As Mr Daliscar says, all glass is covered on your insurance.

My Passat has spent a lot of it's life as a rep car. Meaning lots of stone chips on the bonnet. They were touched in last year when my dad owned it. Finally got round to the paint correcrion and cut back stage.

Stone chips touched in with Volkswagen paint.
