Will this pass MOT

Hi Guys

Had someone run into the back of me at a roundabout in my clio. Now the boot does not open as the latching mechanism got messed up, so I have bolted the latch down permanently on the inside. The rear got beat up so that now the reg plate light does not fit in it's place, so I have duct taped it in place so it shines on the plate. Basically I'm not willing to spend any money on this car as it's pretty much had it anyway, but if I can get it through an MOT I will keep it running till it dies - question is will it go through with the above 'mods'. Cheers

Why not bolt the light down with a bracket?
I'm sure you could bodge something up. Insulate the wiring a bit better so it's out of the rain, job done.

That said, if the car is borderline you're probably going to get a fail list as long as your arm anyway, so you could just wait and see what the tester comes up with.

Thanks greektaxi, I was thinking of screwing the light to the boot with some self tapping screws. So they wouldn't care if you could see the wires if they are wrapped up? And you think not being able to open the boot wouldnt be a fail - I have had mixed answers to this question. TBH it's not that bad in terms of an MOT, it passed fine last year and hasn't been used all that much, it's just quite long in the tooth now and not worth putting money into, but if I can bodge it through I might aswell.

I would say no...... mainly because it's a Clio

I gave my track spec Clio 172 away. Nothing but problems. Go get a Jap or German hatchback

I can't see an issue with the boot, an MOT doesn't inspect a spare wheel, so there's no reason why they'd go in there.

I know it wont pass . The test guy needs to get in the boot to check for corrosion . Like boot floor shocker tops [turrets] ..sorry hope you get it sorted out .

If you were being cheeky you could argue that the examiner is not allowed to dismantle and therefore would not be able to remove the fixings that are holding the boot lid shut!
