Seem to be getting quite a bit of noise from the hydraulic lifters on start up, I know a small amount is normal when the oil has had time to drain out after not being running for a few hours but it seems worse than it should be now. Has anyone found a good cure for it? See there are some oil additives that are advertised for lifter noise, I am a bit reluctant to try them as all seem to use quite aggressive detergents a bit like an engine flush type. Was thinking about changing to a 5w40 or 5w50 oil from the current 10W40 so the lower cold viscosity might help increase the oil flow just after start to pressurise the lifters. Has anyone found this helps? |

Not a had job replacing valve lifters .About 30 mins on your car. Check out youtube videos on this they are most helpful . But you could try a tin of LIQUI MOLLY valve cleaner first . It cleans out the valve gear . |

YouTube is the best place to see it done in video . You just remove the valve cover and see if you can move them up and down. Then that will be the one with the play in it and its time to remove it and replace with a new one . |

Gents, There is a small guide somewhere on this forum about replacing the hydraulic valve lifters. I did this with the help of Kenny (where has he gone? ) and put some pics up. You will need to by a full set from GCP/Euro Car Parts/ Stealearship (original is always better). Worth renewing your rocker cover gasket seal as you take of the rocker cover to replace the hydraulic valve lifters. They make a huge difference to the car once done. Well worth having them done. |

Good choice. I wouldn't trust EuroCrapParts for items such as this. |

Thought I would give some feedback, I took the rocker cover off and couldn’t really establish what tappet it is causing the noise as they all seemed to be fairly 'tight' with both the values open and closed. Changed the oil to a 5W40 (from a 10W40) and still had issues with tappet noise but having driven 200 miles or so since then the noise seems to have stopped. Maybe the fresh oil has cleaned out a blockage or something. I may still replace them if they cause any further issues. Thanks for your help. |
