Hi guys,
Just a quick question, are the vacuum pumps on 190ds prone to failure? Been told that they have been upgraded a few times, was wondering do I need to replace mine?
Have heard the ball bearings can drop out and ruin the engine

Any thoughts or information anyone?

Many thanks

Danny

Hello Danny
http://mercedes-190.co.uk/topic/6717571/1/#new

Sadly, all my pix are knackered. But the pix are only showing the old bust pump next to the new one.
This was five years ago so who knows if you can still get pattern parts.

The guy who diagnosed the problem said the ball bearings would be in the sump and be doing no harm. I suppose they could get stuck in the chain on their way down, but I wasn't unlucky like this. The bearings were nowhere to be seen.

Since the vac pump is easy to remove, why not just do that and take a look. The bit that fails is a wheel on top of a spring, and it'll be obvious if it's worn.
